Molab – The Institute of Model-Based Design at the Faculty of Architecture CTU is organizing an international conference titled Design Computing on October 10 and 11, 2018. Computer-aided design provides architects with more sophisticated tools to precisely check the state of preparations and the form of the proposal. This allows architects to verify whether their model can meet all requirements. The interdisciplinary approach to design has reached a point where it is impossible to clearly distinguish between form and content, and simultaneously between architecture, design, construction, sculpture, painting, and graphics. Dana Matějovská from the Institute of Model-Based Design, who is behind the conference's preparation, sees a positive future for computer-aided design: “More and more architects will manage studios where design computing is common practice. Therefore, they must be aware of the possibilities of computer-aided design and its uses to keep pace with the demands of the time.” The purpose of the conference is to present the latest trends in computer-aided design as perceived by master's and doctoral students from the Faculty of Architecture CTU and the Faculty of Civil Engineering CTU, as well as other students from foreign universities. The conference will showcase model principles of design computing, such as examples of algorithmic research, design, and fabrication in Architecture 4.0. The conference will also feature Thomas Bock from the Technical University of Munich and Matias del Campo from the University of Michigan. Both guests are among the world elite in the field of design computing. Part of the international event will be a multimedia exhibition (October 10 - 17, 2018) presenting the field of design computing and its outputs, not only from the Faculty of Architecture and the Faculty of Civil Engineering CTU but also from European and world schools. In addition to the exhibition, conference participants will have the opportunity to see interactive presentations from companies, architectural offices, and faculty graduates focused on computer-aided design.
