Prague - The Academy of Art, Architecture and Design in Prague and the Winternitz Villa gallery have signed a memorandum of cooperation, under which exhibitions of UMPRUM students will regularly take place in the villa. The first exhibition is titled "Architecture at UMPRUM 2018 - a selection of students' final projects from architecture studios." The curator of the exhibition is doc. ak. arch. Bohumil Chalupníček, and you can visit it from February 4, 2018, to April 4, 2018.

"We are very pleased with the collaboration with UMPRUM. From the very beginning, we aimed to connect the spaces of the famous architect with young promising emerging artists; this idea would surely resonate with Loos, who himself founded a private construction school in 1912, where he also taught," says MgA. David Cysař, the director of the gallery.

At the Winternitz Villa, UMPRUM will present a selection of the best final projects from four studios of the Department of Architecture. Each studio has its own specific approach and direction towards architecture. The Architecture Studio I is led by doc. Ing. akad. arch. Jan Šépka, and the topic of the semester and final projects in the winter semester 2017/2018 was the Slavic Epic in Prague. The Architecture Studio II is led by prof. Ing arch. Ivan Kroupa, where students addressed the themes: My World (personal vision), Survival (Costa Rica workshop), City Limits (Medellín workshop), Baroque (urban workshop in Měšice), Těšnov (infill development). Students from the third studio, under the guidance of prof. ak. arch. Imrich Vaško, will present the final project: Acoustic Cave - pavilion for the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan. The last topic, which you can look forward to, is very current: Baugruppe A4 aims to revive everyday life in the historic city center, specifically simulating the process of building communal housing in the environment of the Prague Heritage Reserve. The project authors are students from Architecture Studio IV under the leadership of doc. Mgr. ak. arch. Roman Brychta.

"I see the partnership with the Winternitz Villa as a significant benefit for both institutions. The school is offered unique spaces in the villa and garden for exhibitions and other events. For art theory students, the second Loos Villa in Prague is an opportunity to explore its history. I believe that UMPRUM's entry into the exhibition program at the Winternitz Villa will help raise people's interest in this until recently overlooked functionalist treasure," says prof. ak. arch. Jiří Pelcl, Vice-Rector for External Relations and International Cooperation at UMPRUM, regarding the newly established cooperation with the Winternitz Villa.

About the Winternitz Villa

The Winternitz Villa, designed by the famous architect Adolf Loos and Karel Lhota, has been permanently opened as a gallery since April 25, 2017, due to the great public interest. It can be visited every Sunday to Wednesday between 12 PM and 6 PM and every Saturday as part of guided tours. Visitors can not only calmly view the work of Adolf Loos (and admire his extraordinary way of spatial division known as raumplan), visit the current exhibition and the permanent exhibition mapping the villa's fate since the 1930s, but also enjoy unique spaces during some accompanying programs. The great-grandson of Josef Winternitz, who had the villa built for his family in 1932, holds lectures on art history and architecture, theater performances, concerts, and swing dance events here in the spirit of the salons of that time.
