The municipality of Žabeň is located in the Moravian-Silesian Region at an altitude of 266 m above sea level in an area defined by the flows of Olešná and Ostravice, which serve as the border river between the historical lands of Silesia and Moravia. A road runs through the center of the village, connecting both North Moravian metropolises. Over 880 permanent residents live in the village, which was historically known as Žabno or Žabná, covering an area of 3.3 km². The history of the Sokol Žabeň gymnastic unit began in 1934, and despite all restrictions and hardships, it has never arbitrarily interrupted its activities. At the end of 2019, the unit had 50 members, more than 50% of whom were children or youth. The only sports area used by the local Sokol is a grass football pitch. The space for the construction of a sports facility was donated to our TJ by one of the founding members. The pitch serves to host cultural and sporting events of all kinds. It is primarily intended for football, which residents from surrounding villages, where they lack facilities for one of the most popular sports, regularly come to play. The pitch is surrounded by a small park with an avenue of mature linden, chestnut, and maple trees. This area provides facilities for hosting various sports activities, which are quite numerous (football matches: Singles vs. Married, traditional derby Žabeň - Paskov; children's events: Witch Burning, Children's Day, Sports Whims; adult events: Beer Festival, Culinary Tasting Meeting; for the general public: Birthday Celebrations, Egg Frying). The aim of the competition is to design a smaller facility in the eastern part of the land to replace the existing facilities that are outdated and do not meet today’s standards. The facility should provide basic support for all types of activities that can take place here. Sokol Žabeň does not have any financial resources for this type of investment. The financing of the project will depend on the generosity of the addressed entities operating in the area of the municipality and its immediate surroundings. We will also apply for grants from the municipality, the region, local action groups, and foundation funds. Nevertheless, we have decided to announce an architectural workshop for this intention and seek quality building solutions. We believe that with our determination and purposeful work, we will achieve our goal. No goal is too great to be unattainable. It just takes the will and finding the right people. The rest is easy. Members of Sokol Žabeň greatly appreciate all participants who will assist him with this intention. Thank you.
