On Thursday, May 18, 2017, the XIII. edition of the Bohuslav Fuchs Award ceremony took place at the Faculty of Architecture, organized by the Student Council of the Faculty of Architecture. In the morning, the jury, consisting of Ing. arch. David Kraus, Ing. arch. Szymon Rozwałka, and Ing. arch. Mg.A. Barbora Šimonová, met. The student part of the jury was represented by the laureates of the previous year’s award, including Bc. Martin Klaška, Blanka Štuříková, and Bc. Kristýna Trojanová. First, the jury elected a chairperson, which was Barbora Šimonová. This was followed by the first round of selecting the best works. The jury toured the school and evaluated the projects throughout the morning. After lunch, which took place in the courtyard of the faculty, the second round of the competition commenced. The jury selected seven awarded projects and three winning projects; among the awarded projects, a special prize was given to a first-year student for the ZAN studio (Fundamentals of Architectural Design) and proposed that this studio be included in future awards. The representative of Xella, Mr. Ing. Petr Simetinger, awarded a special prize. The winning projects were announced during a ceremonial evening at 6:30 PM in the courtyard of the Faculty of Architecture VUT Poříčí 5 in Brno. During the announcement, the jury critically evaluated the approaches of individual studios, commented on the topics being developed at the faculty, highlighted the work of studio leaders Ing. arch. Barbora Ponešová Ph.D. and Ing. arch. Jan Foretník Ph.D., the work of Mg.A. Svatopluk Sládeček and Ing. arch. Nicol Gale, and the Kristek-Sedlák studio. They also welcomed the approach of Ing. arch. Jiří Vítka and the emerging parametric design at the faculty. After the winners were announced, a free discussion on the projects followed, along with a barbecue in the faculty's courtyard and a performance by the band Funky Chicken.
