Prague – The futuristic concept of the "augmented reality assistant" Neo Flock, created by Lithuanian Tomas Jankauskas, is the winner of this year's Dassault Systèmes Design Challenge. The second prize in the competition, held under the auspices of the capital city, was awarded to the hover-cleaner project by Czech designer Karel Vránek. The third place was occupied by the project Swing Charger, designed by Siriphong Roongruengvuthikul from Thailand.

The winning augmented reality assistant, according to the author, is capable of moving through space by itself and offers a real-time view from a different perspective. It can also provide information about a given location and navigate users on their way through the city. The silver electric hovercraft is designed for cleaning public spaces while simultaneously filtering the air. The bronze charging swing allows kinetic energy to be used for charging smart devices and can also serve as a connection across generations of city residents.

“Successful designs illustrate well the direction in which design is heading. The first-place project is immaterial, working with emotions and is in a way metaphysical, the second focuses on product design, and the third engages with the social dimension,” explained Anne Asensio, Vice President of Design Experience at Dassault Systèmes and chair of the jury.

Participants in the third year of the international competition co-organized by the magazine AutoDesign&Styling were tasked with designing an object intended for everyday use inspired by Prague. The winning futuristic project Neo Flock represents an imaginary device referencing Cubism, allowing users to experience the city in a new unconventional dimension. The author worked with the concept of connecting to the nervous system and envisages that the device could be rented short-term, similar to how bicycles are rented today.

Jury — In addition to automotive designer Anne Asensio, the jury also included Radek Laube, editor-in-chief of AutoDesign&Styling, Jana Vinšová from the civic association Czechdesign, and Tomáš Ivančík from Dassault Systèmes. Professional designers were represented by Marie Doucet, Ivan Dlabač, and Petr Štěpánek.

This year, more than forty young designers under the age of 35 participated in the Dassault Systèmes Design Challenge. The author of the best design will receive a reward of 1,000 euros, the second-best will receive 500 euros, and the reward for third place amounts to 300 euros. The competition was also supported by the civic association Czechdesign and the tablet magazine Dotyk.
