Announcement of the EUROPAN 9 Competition
On February 5, 2007, under the slogan "Sustainable City - New Public Spaces", the 9th edition of the European competition for young architects and urban planners under 40 years of age – EUROPAN will be announced. Architectural teams can compete at a total of 79 competition sites in 21 countries.
The Czech Republic is participating in the ninth edition with just one location – Dejvice Railway Station in Prague 6.

What is EUROPAN?
EUROPAN was established at the initiative of the French Ministry of Culture in 1988 by several countries - France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, and Switzerland. It is an activity organized simultaneously in 17 member and 4 associated European countries by EUROPAN - a non-governmental federation of national organizations with a common secretariat in Paris.
The permanent theme of EUROPAN is "European Urbanity".
The goal of EUROPAN is to enable young architects and urban planners under 40 to develop and present their innovative ideas on an international scale. The task is to help cities find unconventional architectural-urban concepts for selected sites. The realization of these projects concludes the organizational process of EUROPAN. After seven editions of EUROPAN, 58 projects have been realized in Europe.

At the general meeting of the civil association Europan CZ, held on December 18, 2006, at the Faculty of Architecture of ČVUT, Ing. arch. Jan Kasl was elected the new President of the Czech Committee. The former president, doc. Ing. arch. Milan Hon, who founded Europan CZ and organized it for seven years, was elected Honorary President. The five-member committee will include Ing.arch. Petr Durdík from the Development Department of the Capital City of Prague, Ing. arch. Vít Řezáč, AUUP ČR, Mgr. Ing. arch. Monika Boháčová, Atelier T-plan Prague, and Ing. arch. Oldřich Hysek from Plzeň. Karina Kubišová continues to serve as the committee's secretary.
Workshop on the results of the EUROPAN 8 competition in Prague 6

In the 8th edition, taking place from 2005 to 2006, two competition locations were addressed in the Czech territory. A Spanish team won in Plzeň, while a French team won in Prague's Podbaba. A workshop titled "Territory in Transformation" will be organized on February 10 - 11, 2007, regarding the results of the Prague portion of EUROPAN 8, featuring awarded teams from France, Germany, and Spain. The introductory lecture will be given by architect Bernd Vlay from Graz, President of Austrian EUROPAN. The discussion will involve participants, jury members, city representatives, and fellow architects and urban planners, focusing on formulating criteria for the successful realization of such transformations in European cities.
