Valašské Meziříčí - The winner of the architectural competition for the new bus transportation terminal, parking garage, and city office in the area of the former Křižan lumber mill in Valašské Meziříčí in the Vsetín region is the design by MACH Office and Aramé Studio from Barcelona. The professional jury selected from five final proposals, spokesman for the city hall Jakub Mikuš informed ČTK today. Thirteen teams from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Italy, Denmark, Hungary, Spain, and Canada submitted proposals.
"Just like in the case of the gymnasium with the parameters of a sports hall at ZŠ Křižná and the residential building for seniors on J. K. Tyla Street, we wanted to achieve the best architectural solution for the individual buildings in the area of the former Křižan lumber mill. We are counting on the fact that thanks to the new bus transportation terminal, parking garage, city office, residential buildings, and well-designed public space, a modern entrance gate to our city will emerge here," stated Mayor Robert Stržínek (ANO).
The professional jury selected five proposals that progressed to the second phase of the competition, and their authors were tasked with elaborating their vision. The winner was a proposal from Spain. "The jury positively evaluated the clear urban and architectural concept that responds to the real needs of our city and takes into account both the current state and the potential for further development of the area. The proposal offers a contemporary solution of individual buildings situated in a park, which responds well to the adjoining development and allows for straightforward phasing of construction," stated Deputy Mayor Yvona Wojaczková (ANO).
The jury was also convinced by the bold design of the city office building. "This is a solution that brings a new identity and representative function. According to the jury, the proposal also stands out for its economical and thoughtful energy solution, which meets current demands for efficiency and sustainability. For Krásno, which suffered greatly during the past regime, the winning proposal represents enormous potential," Wojaczková stated.
The city hall previously stated that the preliminary estimated cost for the new design of the area exceeds 700 million crowns, and the city will seek grants. The construction will be divided into phases.
The competition proposals will be on display from October 22 in the ground floor of the Museum and Gallery Center at the Žerotín Castle. They will be available for viewing until November 6.
