Ústí nad Labem - Two dozen proposals came in for the architectural competition announced by the Ústí city hall for the improvement of the space between the Labe and Forum shopping centers in the city center. The jury will decide on the best proposal next week, said Romana Macová, spokesperson for the city hall, to ČTK. The author of the winning design will receive 100,000 crowns. The city hall will later decide whether to actually follow any of the proposals.
Architects were to find a use for the area, which currently only has a few benches and where people mostly just pass through. "The aim of the competition is to find the main use for a significant public space in the city of Ústí nad Labem, as it is an area in direct proximity to the center. Currently, there are market stalls along the facade of the Labe department store, which are the only reason for visitors," Macová stated.
The winning proposal will be decided by a commission composed of experts and laypeople. According to Macová, the first meeting will also be attended by Mayor Josef Zikmund (ANO) and statutory deputy mayor Martin Hausenblas (PRO!Ústí). "The presence of representatives of the city leadership is necessary, as it is the city's responsibility as the organizer of the competition and its new leadership to manage the results of the competition and decide whether the winning proposal will be realized," Macová stated. However, a pre-established jury will decide on the actual winner.
The author of the winning proposal will receive a financial reward of 100,000 crowns, while the second-best proposal will earn 60,000 crowns and the third 40,000 crowns. All proposals will be displayed in the city information center in the second half of February.
