Market in Svobody Square in Kladno – competition results

1st Prize (25,000 CZK): Ing.arch. Jozef Hyravý and a2š architects s.r.o.
Jury's Evaluation: The jury agreed that the design best utilized the potential of the site, solving the spatial complexity of the place from urban, architectural, and functional perspectives. The generous elliptical roof structure of the market creates a universally usable space. Stackable sales counters can also interestingly enhance the area when the market is not in use. The concept is free, airy, light, elegant, practical, and original. The elliptical solution of the competition design best corresponds to the ideas of the MARKET. The jury particularly appreciated the roofing, which is interesting even when markets are not held, and the openness of the space.

2nd Prize (15,000 CZK): Ing.arch. Eva Mašková, Ing.arch. Lucie Chroustová, Ing.arch. Lucie Kirovová, Ing.arch. Ondřej Teplý
Jury's Evaluation: The jury positively assessed the clearly formulated urban solution, which creates a high-quality public space with universal use. The market building provides solid backing to the public space. The proposed structure is very well identifiable as a market with a thoughtfully organized spatial and structural solution that allows for natural ventilation and daylighting of the market. The jury positively rated the graphic concept of the facade. The design is professionally processed, including graphics.
 
3rd Prize (2,500 CZK): monom - Ing.arch. Michal Bernart, Ing.arch. Igor Hobza, Ing.arch. Zuzana Kubová, Ing.arch. Josef Kubát, Bc. Dominik Císař
Jury's Evaluation: The jury appreciated the openness of the construction while clearly defining the rear line in relation to the park. The urban concept is very well executed. The components of the counters are simple and durable. The openness to the street was positively evaluated (convincing visualization), the choice of truss for roofing (context with industrial Kladno), and the fulfillment of the ideas of temporariness – fragile, airy, beautiful.
 
3rd Prize (2,500 CZK): Ing.arch. Jiří Horský, Tereza Podolská
Jury's Evaluation: Jury members rated the interest of the chosen type of architecture in this proposal. The space for the market is slightly overestimated in its footprint, thus reducing the potential for utilizing the open space around the proposed market. However, the chosen perspective evokes the massiveness of the structure. The element of shop windows to the street was positively evaluated.
 
Honorable Mention: Ing.arch. Jan Kačer, Ing.arch. Adam Windsor
Jury's Evaluation: The solution sensitively reflects the triangular shape of the plot, and the roofing was positively appreciated. This lightweight structure fulfills temporariness while softening the edges. Wood and sails are a sympathetic architectural solution even without active use during market operations. The inner space with new greenery, modesty, practicality was appreciated, although there are some concerns about maintenance. The urban design is very well managed, as is the pedestrian and supply flow.
