UHERSKÉ HRADIŠTĚ - The Uherskohradišťská Town Hall is accepting nominations for the Vladimír Bouček Award for the preservation and development of traditional crafts. The award is given by the town council upon the committee's proposal. Nominations from citizens and visitors to the town will be accepted until March 17, said Deputy Mayor Hana Doupovcová today to ČTK. Last year, the town awarded the prize for the first time to costume tailor František Mikulec. People can propose individuals who, through their knowledge and skills, keep traditional crafts alive, thereby contributing to their preservation for future generations. "The purpose of the award is to ensure that people who bring richness to everyday life through their work and products are not anonymous," noted the councilor. According to her, caring for folk culture and preserving the traditions of ancestors is a civic duty and, of course, has a deeper meaning in preserving national identity in an unifying Europe. Nominations can be sent to the Department of Architecture, Urban Planning, and Regional Development of the municipal office, Masarykovo náměstí 19. Bouček lived from 1901 to 1985. After studying architecture at the Brno University of Technology, he collaborated with architect Bohuslav Fuchs and during World War II became a professor at the Baťa School of Art in Zlín, where a project was established in 1945 under the name of the Central Office of Folk and Artistic Production. After a comprehensive survey of the state of traditional crafts and folk art production in then Czechoslovakia, he formulated the theoretical basis for the practical program of this new institution.
