Prague - The main award in the National Student Design Award competition was won by Pavel Coufalík for his authored book Zlín. From the publication, buildings and objects emerge in a three-dimensional form that, according to the jury, "evoke the atmosphere of the 1920s and 1930s and represent the concept of a city, the strength of which is demonstrated by the book itself." Coufalík studies at the Faculty of Multimedia Communications at the University of Zlín and received the award at today's ceremonial announcement of the results of the 23rd edition, along with other awardees. Coufalík is thus the holder of the National Student Design Award 2013. The jury also awarded five titles for Excellent Student Design 2013 - for example, to Petr Dub from the Prague Academy of Art, Architecture and Design for his hanging lights called Reconfiguration. The basis of the chandelier is a supporting plastic part produced by a 3D printer, which carries the light source, along with several wooden logs serving as the lighting function; the concept allows the user to change the shape variations of the light fixture. Věra Kunhartová from the Faculty of Art and Design at the Ústí University received the same award for the positioning orthopedic wheelchair Seiza, while Lucie Smyslová from the same faculty designed the heating accumulation unit Malmö - a modular system that allows the construction of a stove according to the customer's wishes. At the Academy of Art, Architecture and Design, Martina Žílová studies, whose cobalt bowls thrown on a potter's wheel were also recognized by the jury as excellent, just like the combine harvester by Martin Beinhauer also from the Academy. His Mlátička John Deere S700 also received the National Technical Museum Award and the Union of Professional Designers of the Czech Republic Award. Ten other competing students received the Good Student Design Award 2013. According to Lenka Žižková from the organizing Design Cabinet, 225 participants entered the competition this year. The competition has been international since last year, with the most foreign participants coming from Slovakia, but students from Canada, for example, are also entering.
