How might the face of today’s capital of Slovenia have changed if this great visionary spirit could have realized all his master projects?

Jože Plečnik
is an architect claimed not only by Slovenians but also by Czechs. His art is associated with the building of a democratic state during the time of the First Republic. Perhaps due to his experiences in Prague, Plečnik brought many preconceived opinions to Ljubljana and left behind masterful architectural works that create a recognizable panorama of the city and are inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

We invite you to a lecture and subsequent discussion with two experts on both life phases of Jože Plečnik. Professor and architect Vladimír Šlapeta, one of the greatest Czech specialists dedicated to Plečnik's work, will inform you about Plečnik's creations in Prague. You will learn about Plečnik's relationship with Prague and the legacy he left here. Plečnik's unrealized projects in Ljubljana are among the lesser-known chapters of Plečnik’s artistic work. Various plans related to these projects reveal the architect's mostly unfulfilled dreams about the shape of the national metropolis of Slovenians. The selection of four unrealized projects will be presented by curator of Plečnik's permanent exhibition at the Plečnik House in Ljubljana, Ana Porok.

Don’t miss this unrepeatable event, which is held on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Jože Plečnik's birth and connects experts from both countries where this genius architect worked.

The uniqueness of the event is emphasized by the venue – the spaces of the Collegium Maximum auditorium at the Faculty of Law of Charles University, designed by Plečnik's contemporary and close friend Jan Kotěra. The moderator of the event will be art historian and guide Markéta Čejková, whom you may know from the commented walk "Na Hrad za Plečnikem".
