The first lecture of the new series Accessible Housing will take place on Thursday, March 5th at 7 PM at the Světozor cinema. The speaker will be architect, educator, and co-founder of the award-winning Catalan studio HARQUITECTES, Xavier Ros Majó. The lecture Barcelona: Social Housing will provide insight into the design process of this studio, focusing mainly on the construction of social housing.
In its projects, the HARQUITECTES studio takes into account heritage value, material functionality, and building energy efficiency. Their buildings are known not only for their aesthetics with exposed bricks and concrete but also for ventilation systems that daily battle with the Catalan sun. In addition to the construction of private housing and the renovation of community centers, they particularly focus on social housing, which is critically lacking in Barcelona. Co-founder of HARQUITECTES Xavier Ros Majó will present two projects that are connected by quality solutions, dignified design, and emphasis on the community functions of buildings: Social Housing 1737 in Gavà and Social Housing 2104 in Palma de Mallorca. While the first project connects housing with the surrounding landscape, the second utilizes the demolition debris of the original building for the new structure.

For example, House 1413 received a nomination for EU Mies van der Rohe Award in 2019.
