The couple Ivana and Vladimír Střálkovi commuted from Prague to Bílovec on weekends, back to their homeland, and decided to move their residence permanently, closer to the Beskids. On the recommendation of architecture historian Professor Petr Kratochvíl, they approached our studio. We did not hesitate and visited an interesting plot on the outskirts of the town and got to work. The brief was simple – a single-story house for peaceful living, relaxation, but also for work and the lively activities of their grandchildren.
The design concept is based on the shape of the land and the access road. We aimed to create an spatially open object in the landscape, with beautiful views of the surroundings. The family house is designed with a floor plan in the shape of a "T," partially embedded in the slope, connecting to a shelter for car parking. A unified appearance is created by horizontal elements at the level of the ceiling structures. The entrance's gentle staircase is complemented by a ramp.
The living space is located on the left side of the entrance hallway, divided into a living area with a kitchen and a working space. With sliding doors, we can quietly enter the terrace and the garden. The quiet zone of bedrooms and bathrooms is situated on the right side of the aforementioned entrance hallway, which also forms a gallery of artistic objects.
The larger part of the house is made of reinforced concrete with exposed construction on the surface. We designed a ceramic system with plaster finishes and full-height doors for the rooms. The facade is enhanced with larch cladding with a ventilated gap.
