The original old Kopřivnice was just a small village along the stream. Along the line of houses, strips of individual fields and plots followed. During a relatively short development, the small village transformed into a city with functions divided into zones, thus we can refer to the current state as a zoned city. The zones together form a kind of grid that defines the individual areas. This principle is transferred from the large scale of the whole city to the smaller scale of the city center itself, where it helps to create the definition of individual functional areas.
The central motif of the entire design is a new object in the center of the area. It is a universal central point open both to the recreational part and to the representative paved area. Among the most important points that were set to be addressed are the reconstruction of paved areas, the design of a glass exhibition pavilion, the arrangement of greenery and landscaping, the drainage of rainwater from the paved areas, and also the complete renewal of lighting. It was crucial to define a space for various social public events, such as concerts, markets, pilgrimages, and more.
We are pleased that the city of Kopřivnice has, after 40 years, a dignified public space suitable for the 21st century.
