Biography
After passing the maturity exam in 1932, when the family already lived in Pilínkov, he went to study at the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in Prague. In 1937, he received his engineering degree and went for an internship in Paris with the famous architect Auguste Perret. After returning from France, he enlisted for mandatory military service in the Czechoslovak army.
After the establishment of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, he joined the construction company Hrabě and Losovský. In 1942, he was assigned to Slovakia through his job, where he designed until 1944, before moving to the planning office at the Ministry of Transport. In August 1944, he went to Banská Bystrica and became a member of the 1st Czechoslovak Army in Slovakia. He remained in combat against the Hitlerian forces as a radio operator until the official dissolution of the army. He then hid for several months with friends before being arrested by the Gestapo in January 1945 and imprisoned for two months. In March 1945, he was liberated in Banská Bystrica. After the war, he returned to northern Bohemia, where he taught at the Industrial School of Civil Engineering in Liberec and operated a private design office. After 1948, he had to close his business. Instead, he worked at Stavoprojekt and, from 1958 to 1960, at Pozemní stavby Liberec. He then returned to the industrial school, where he taught until 1988. Throughout the post-war period, he focused on urbanism and the preservation of immovable monuments. He designed, for example, the housing estate in Králův Háj, the entrance to the Liberec exhibition grounds, and the atrium houses in Aloisina Výšina. He also published dozens of professional and popular science books, as well as several hundred studies and articles.
