Zlín – The Regional Hospital T. Baťa in Zlín (KNTB) has announced a public tender for the construction of a gynecological-obstetrics complex (GPK). The GPK will be the first completely new building on the grounds of the Zlín regional hospital after many years, and it is also the second largest project in the new general plan for KNTB, announced the hospital spokesperson Dana Lipovská today. The anticipated value of the contract is 1.76 billion crowns excluding VAT. If everything goes well, demolition work on two ground-level buildings, which will free up space for the construction, will begin in the second half of this year, the spokesperson added.
"At the Regional Hospital T. Baťa, we are moving from necessary repairs and modernization to a fundamental investment phase that will begin to change the entire concept of the hospital complex. We are following the plan set out in 2022 and are preparing for the construction of the first new pavilion. This, along with the accompanying transportation infrastructure, will create a natural center for the entire area. For the region, this is the largest investment in the last 15 years and also a clear signal that we want to systematically develop the regional hospital, not just maintain it," said Governor Radim Holiš (ANO).
The new complex will feature a center for childbirth assistance as well as facilities for gynecological patients. "I believe that they will appreciate maximum privacy in the form of single rooms and modern spaces, including operating rooms. Our main goal is not just to build a new building, but to create a pavilion for mother and child that meets the highest European standards technologically and professionally," said the head of the gynecology and obstetrics department at KNTB, Vladimír Kalist. The building will have two underground, five above-ground, and a sixth technical floor.
"In the new maternity hospital, we will focus, among other things, on the concept of family cohabitation. This is a principle of care in neonatology. So mothers of premature babies and those born on time will be able to spend their entire time in the hospital with both their child and their closest person. Every newborn needs an individual approach; each child has their needs at different times, and their mother knows them best. The staff, although they will be very close if needed, will play more of a role as evaluators or teachers," said the head of the neonatology department at KNTB, Jozef Macko.
The GPK project was expanded last year to include the construction of a new central entrance and transportation axis in the central part of the hospital complex. The investment plan also includes the first phase of land preparation for construction on the so-called Gahurův prospekt, including the planned central polyblock for urgent care specialties, which encompasses a central source of medical gases and an underground corridor.
