Zlín - The Zlín Čipera Villa will open to the public after reconstruction on Saturday, February 28. After a year and a half of restoration, a Cultural and Creative Center of the Zlín Region has been established there. There will also be an exhibition dedicated to Dominik Čipera, the former director of Baťa, the mayor of Zlín, and a Czechoslovak minister. The total costs reached 202 million crowns, of which 100 million was covered by a grant from the National Recovery Plan, spokesperson for the regional government Soňa Ličková informed CTK today. The investor was the Zlín Region, which owns the villa.
"The Čipera Villa is one of the iconic architectural monuments of Zlín. When we were deciding on its future, we faced a challenging task. At a time when the region carefully considers every investment, embarking on a reconstruction costing 202 million crowns means a great responsibility. Today we have completed it, and I am sincerely pleased with the result; I warmly invite everyone to its grand opening," stated governor Radim Holiš (ANO).
The villa of Dominik Čipera was built in 1942 according to the design of architect Vladimír Karfík. After 1945, the Čipera family had to leave. From 1947, the building served as a children's home, and until recently it housed a facility for children requiring immediate assistance. In 2002, the villa and garden were listed in the Register of Cultural Monuments.
The operation of the cultural and creative center will be managed by the regional organization 14I15 Baťa Institute. "We want it to be a place where mainly young people and artists gather to develop their talents and creative abilities. Workshops focused on ceramics, painting, 3D printing, and similar activities are planned, for example. The representative halls will also serve for conferences or ceremonial events of the Zlín Region," said regional council member Ivan Láska (ANO).
