The construction of the urgent care center in Liberec will restrict access to the hospital area starting from Monday

Liberec – The four billion crown construction of the emergency medicine center at the regional hospital in Liberec will significantly restrict access and passage through its grounds from Monday. The restrictions will last for several weeks, hospital spokesperson Václav Řičář said today to ČTK.

From Monday, the area near the heliport will be closed – between the entrance to the surgical pavilion A2 and the ramp by building J with the cafeteria. "The construction company will be preparing pilings there, among other things, on which a several hundred-ton tube, or trunk, will stand, connecting the emergency medicine center with the rest of the hospital," Řičář stated.

From August 10, access through the main entrance of the hospital from Husova Street will be possible only to the surgical pavilion. Other parts of the grounds will be accessible either via the upper entrance from Husova Street near the maternity building G or two entrances from Klášterní Street. "For access to building D with the follow-up care department from Jablonecká Street, a new entrance opposite the parking garage can be used," added the hospital spokesperson.

The construction of the emergency medicine pavilion is the most significant construction for the Regional Hospital in Liberec in the last 40 years. The six-story building, 120 meters long, will house emergency reception, traumatology, and acute care departments as well as central laboratories. It will also include a new energy center and a parking garage.

Construction began in the spring of 2023, and according to the original contract, the building was supposed to be completed in 1155 days (38 months) by the end of June this year. However, the work has become complicated and prolonged, with builders citing the emergency condition of the sewer system, changes required in laboratory and sterilization technologies, and especially changes in the technology of the new energy center as the main reasons. The construction will thus last at least another year and a half. So far, only the parking garage has been completed.

Due to the extension of the construction, the consortium of construction companies Syner, Metrostav DIZ, and Geosan Group is requesting compensation for increased costs, which builders have preliminarily estimated at 190 million crowns excluding VAT. Liberec County will have an independent legal analysis prepared, said Governor Martin Půta (Mayors for the Liberec Region) earlier. The price that came out of the competition was 3.15 billion crowns excluding VAT, which amounts to 3.8 billion with tax.
