Prague - The Building of the Year 2025 includes, among others, the renovation of the InterContinental hotel in Prague, the construction of the D4 highway in the Central Bohemian Region, and the emergency reception and surgical departments pavilion at the hospital in Pardubice. A total of 15 winners were selected in the 33rd edition of the competition organized by the Foundation for the Development of Architecture and Construction from 46 Czech and three foreign nominated buildings. The awards were presented today by the organizers at a ceremonial evening in Prague's Rudolfinum.

The Building of the Year awards were also received by the administrative wooden building Budex Hub Planá, the children's hospice House for Julia in Brno, Stage North in the Prague Distillery, the recreational house Chaletkru in Blatno near Chomutov, the second stage of the extension of the existing tram line in Žabovřeská street in Brno, the modified memorial space at the old cemetery in Vratislavice in the Liberec region, the reconstruction of the Sun Baths in Luhačovice, the Prague elementary school Šeberov, the new ČSOB building in Hradec Králové, the hemodialysis center in Třinec, the railway between Adamov and Blansko, and the reconstruction of the train station building at Aš.

The former InterContinental hotel is now named Fairmont Golden Prague Hotel. The judges praised the sensitive transformation of the iconic brutalist building to preserve the original concept by Karel Filsak. The pavilion of emergency reception and surgical departments at the hospital in Pardubice fundamentally transformed the operational structure of the complex and concentrated all key healthcare operations into one entity.

During today’s ceremonial evening, a number of special prizes were also awarded, such as from the Ministry for Regional Development (MMR) or the Ministry of Culture. MMR awarded a special prize to the Amadeus residence in Prague, while the Ministry of Culture awarded the Church of St. James the Greater in Brno.

This year, as in the previous year, the jury was chaired by architect Zdeněk Jiran, alongside him were Martina Hovořáková, Renata Zdařilová, Miloš Rehberger, and Jan Pašek.

In the previous edition of the competition, the title Building of the Year was awarded to the administrative building Masaryčka in Prague, the Imperial Baths, and the Concert Hall in Karlovy Vary, as well as the multifunctional football stadium in Hradec Králové.
