Plzeň - The two towers of the Sisters building in Plzeň, which will be the third tallest residential building in the Czech Republic, are for the first time visible above the surrounding terrain since construction began last November. After months of technically demanding work underground, the towers will rise at a pace of one floor every three weeks, said Michal Fictum from the Plzeň construction, development, and investment group MIRAS Group to ČTK. Upon completion, the towers will be 94 and 83 meters tall. The Sisters project, costing 1.5 billion crowns, is expected to be completed by 2028 and will feature 174 apartments.
Construction began last fall. A ten-meter-deep pit for the foundation slab has been supplemented with over 16,000 tons of steel in the supporting structure, roughly twice the weight of the Eiffel Tower. Since then, a special crane from Vienna has been on the site, which will rise along with the towers. Its height will reach 120 meters, and according to Fictum, it will rank among the tallest construction cranes in the Czech Republic.
According to the project’s technical director, Martin Němec, the builders are currently forming the walls and pillars, constructing visible structures, and reinforcing vertical elements. The concrete pouring arm, which is used for skyscraper construction in places like Dubai, will also rise to the highest floors as the building grows.
According to Němec, the Sisters building is becoming a living textbook of construction. During a guided tour, 60 students from a technical school of construction visited it. According to the production director of MIRAS, Pavel Zolotarev, dozens of students have already completed internships in the nearby Triangl Park, where the group is building 650 apartments for 1.75 billion crowns. "Our vision is to show them construction in practice and support technical education in the region. We plan to expand the tours to include expert lectures at schools, internships, part-time jobs, and future employment opportunities in Miras,” he said.
Sales of one-third of the total 174 apartments in the Sisters project began at the end of last year. "We have prepared tours of the model apartments using virtual reality glasses, including views from the outside on the façade,” said Zdeněk Molcar from Broker Consulting. Potential buyers also have access to the roof of the neighboring Škoda hotel to imagine the future panoramic view of Plzeň. Last March, Fictum announced plans to renovate the dilapidated hotel for about 200 million crowns into a four-star hotel.
The embracing sisters Lili and Dory will have a cast of the Fictum family crest in the future reception area, which is based on a historical template from the 15th century. According to historian Petr Hlaváček, this is from the still-living Thuringian line of the Fictums, in German Vitzthum, which was once settled in Bohemia as well. This family line made its mark in Czech history mainly in the late Middle Ages and early modern period around Kadaň, where it is significantly connected with the monastery of the Fourteen Holy Helpers.
