Brno - A part of the underpass beneath Brno's main train station will have a new floor, wall surfaces, and ceiling, as well as an accessible platform. The city council approved an investment plan today, which includes repairs worth over 82 million crowns. The work is expected to last about six months, the municipal office informed in a press release today. The start date is not yet known. In connection with the reconstruction, the city will remove the remaining sales stalls from the underpass.

"The underpass beneath the main train station needs structural modifications due to unsatisfactory surface constructions. After the repairs, an architecturally valuable space will be created, which corresponds to its significance and current aesthetic requirements," said Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS).

The planned work includes the replacement of wall surfaces and ceiling finishes, restoration of the floor, installation of an orientation system, cameras, and advertising monitors. "There will also be a light multimedia wall, which will respond to the movement of people in the space, the time of day, and the surrounding light conditions and will display current information," added Deputy Mayor René Černý (ANO).

In the past, many Brno residents have labeled the underpass and the area in front of the station in surveys as one of the ugliest public places in the city. The reconstruction has been planned for several years.
