Brno – The Faculty Hospital in Brno has received final approval for the construction of a parking garage near the Children's Hospital on Černopolní Street. Today, it signed a contract with the contractor who will build the garage with 373 parking spaces. The work, costing 193 million crowns without VAT, is set to begin in the coming weeks and will last for 15 months. CTK was informed by the hospital's investment deputy, Radoslav Basel. According to the original plans, the garage was supposed to be built last year. Parking around the Children's Hospital has long been problematic for visitors and people living nearby.
"Efforts to build the parking garage date back to 2005. The current version of the project comes from a study in 2022, and we applied for the permit in February 2024," said Basel. After the centralization of building authorities in Brno, another office began to deal with the project. The construction was also delayed due to objections from residents of Helfertova Street, who were initially not given the opportunity to express their opinions on the proposal. They particularly disagreed with the location of the entrance opposite residential buildings. They became part of the process only after insisting on it. The hospital subsequently adjusted the project.
"At the end of last year, we obtained a preliminary permit, after which there was one objection. It has already been resolved, and after obtaining the permit, we were able to sign a contract with the company we had already selected," he added.
The parking garage, with four above-ground and one underground level, will feature a metal facade that can be allowed to be overgrown with climbing plants. The entrance level will have sanitary facilities with a cleaning room, and on the top floor, there will be charging stations for electric cars. The project also includes two elevators, one of which will allow for the transport of beds.
"The original estimated cost was more than 300 million crowns, but we managed to reduce it during the competition. The capacity will be 373 spaces, which will be wider than the standard. We expect that families with children will mainly park there. The new building will serve employees and visitors of the hospital, for whom a preferential regime will apply, but others can park there too. We will also offer the service to residents," added Basel. The building will be connected by a new entrance from the small park at the corner of Helfertova and Černopolní Streets.
