Opava – The Opava City Hall has not received any applications from companies willing to invest in the construction of a parking garage in the Kylešovice district. Some time ago, the city called for potential interested parties to submit non-binding offers. This was stated to ČTK by the city spokesperson Roman Konečný. According to him, however, several companies have reached out with different proposals for further action.

"We do not have any interest from a potential builder for the parking garage. However, several companies engaged in the construction of parking garages have contacted the city. They are proposing other possible solutions. We want to negotiate with them," Konečný said. The deadline for potential interested parties expired at the end of April.

Opava has long been dealing with a significant lack of parking spaces. In the busy parts of the city, there is considerable pressure on street parking, and the current infrastructure is no longer sufficient. "Therefore, the city is preparing to gradually increase capacity through modern above-ground parking garages in several selected locations," Konečný stated. One of these areas is, according to him, a part of Kylešovice. The plot at the intersection of Hlavní and Ruská streets has been evaluated by officials as a suitable location for the establishment of an above-ground parking facility. The city then informally approached potential investors.

"The goal is to increase comfort for residents and visitors, improve access to cultural and commercial activities, and simultaneously relieve public spaces of parked vehicles. The plan also emphasizes sustainability. The parking garage should offer facilities for electromobility, smart parking systems, and the possibility of incorporating commercial spaces," stated Opava's mayor Tomáš Navrátil (ANO).
