Humpolec - Humpolec in the Pelhřimov region will have the repair of the protected Med Villa projected. The contract for 1.48 million without tax was approved today by the city councilors. The city wants to have the project and building permit ready before submitting applications for grants from the so-called Norwegian funds, and possibly for obtaining other grants.

The city selected the project contractor through a closed tender, reaching out to three designers. More than the price, the quality of the proposal was decisive in the selection. On Friday, the committee chose the Znojmo company ORA. The other two proposals were 10,000 and 380,000 cheaper. However, according to the mayor of the city, Petr Machka (HumpolecGO!), the winning proposal convinced with how it connected the interior of the villa with the garden as public greenery. A requirement in the tender was that the repair could be done in parts if necessary.

The initial estimate of the costs for the repair of the monument, preserving the apartment of the original owner, is 30 million crowns, said Natálie Brzoňová, the coordinator of the Med Villa project. A more accurate budget will be set only after the project documentation is completed. The functioning of the villa as a cultural center should be secured in a way that it can sustain its operation financially.

The cultural monument, designed by architect Josef Gočár, was purchased by the city in 2024 for nearly 25 million crowns. Since last year, it has been accessible for guided tours and intimate cultural events. Over 1,000 people have already participated in the tours, with tours starting in April this year.

The villa was built on Tyršovo Square by fabric trader Otakar Med between 1933 and 1934. The house served as both a family and corporate residence, and was later confiscated by the communist regime. After November 1989, the state returned the villa to the Med family. It has been partially preserved in its original state, including original furnishings, particularly concerning the apartment upstairs. The city wants to maintain its authentic appearance. The ground floor is to be adapted for exhibitions, lectures, educational programs for schools, and community events.
