Call for Architectural and Landscape Design Proposal for the Renewal of the Park in Front of the Primary School U Červených domků in Hodonín

The Karel Komárek Transformation Foundation announces a call for proposals for the development of an architectural-landscape design in connection with the upcoming renovation of the park in front of the U Červených domků Elementary School in Hodonín. The deadline for submitting proposals is August 15, 2022, and the foundation and the city will select the winner of the call by September 30 of the same year. The goal of the project to renovate the park in front of the U Červených domků Elementary School in Hodonín is to rectify the damage in the area caused by the devastating tornado while also creating a cultivated public space primarily intended for rest and relaxation. The space can also serve other organizations in the area for their events as well as host cultural activities. The estimated total investment costs for the renovation of the damaged area are 30 million crowns, with significant financial support from the foundation expected.

“The space in front of the elementary school connects the suburban Bažantnice forest, the sports area, and the House of Nature. The foundation and the city care deeply about creating a place where everyone who stops here or passes by can find what is right for them. That is why we organized a survey among citizens, a participatory café, and a workshop with children this year to find out what they hope for from the future place. I am glad that the first step towards fulfilling their wishes is selecting a suitable architectural studio," said Luboš Veselý, who is responsible for managing the Karel Komárek Transformation Foundation.

The actual renovation of the park consists of two phases. The first phase concluded in the spring of 2022 when a smaller community tree planting took place on the site. The goal of the foundation and the city was to create conditions for a smooth transition to the second phase, during which the area in front of the elementary school will receive a coherent architectural and landscape concept. The call for proposals that has just opened also includes a timeframe for implementation. The successful applicant will work on the design, presumably during the years 2022–2025.

“Entering the second phase of the renovation of the park in front of the U Červených domků Elementary School is great news for Hodonín. The Karel Komárek Transformation Foundation has many years of experience in creating parks, gardens, and other public spaces. Therefore, the city welcomes the foundation's assistance with issuing the call. A well-set collaboration is also reflected in the fact that representatives of both the foundation and the city will sit on the evaluation committee,” stated the Mayor of Hodonín, Libor Střecha.

Funds amounting to 2.3 million crowns including VAT have been allocated for the development of the architectural-landscape design, including documentation. Among other things, it is expected to implement solutions that will utilize blue-green infrastructure principles and correspond to the context and character of the site. The future team of architects and landscapers will also propose a new entrance to the elementary school premises, resolve the connection of paths to other projects in the locality, or consider the placement of a shelter or artistic element.
