In the TONDACH Baked Roof 2007 competition, the best roofers were awarded for the third time. This year's edition became proof of the very high quality of all submitted works and the fact that roofing companies care about their reputation. A total of 75 buildings were entered into the competition, which offers roofers the opportunity to gain high prestige for their companies. The authors of the best works received awards at a festive evening organized by TONDACH during the Roofs Prague 2008 fair.

This year, interested roofers could submit their works in the categories of Family House, Historical and Church Building, Residential (Apartment) Building, and Public Beneficial Building.
According to the rules, awards in the form of basic tiles from the production of TONDACH Czech Republic s.r.o. were prepared for the eight best competition works. In the categories of Family House and Historical and Church Building, the first three places were announced, while in the other two categories, only the best building received an award.
Only works completed between October 1, 2006, and October 31, 2007, were eligible for the award. There was no distinction made among the submitted works regarding whether they were new constructions or renovations. The only binding condition, as in previous years, was the complete implementation of the roof using the TONDACH system.

The quality of the works was assessed by experts

Alongside TONDACH, other co-organizers included the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Brno University of Technology and the Czech Association of Roofers, Plumbers, and Carpenters. The media partners of the competition were once again the publications Stavitel and Střechy, Fasády a Izolace.
The jury, which had a difficult decision-making task ahead of it, was chaired by Doc. Ing. Antonín Fajkoš, CSc. from the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Brno University of Technology. Others involved in the evaluation included: Ing. Eva Hellerová, a court expert specializing in roofs and roofing membranes; Petr Klabouch from the Czech Association of Roofers, Plumbers, and Carpenters; Ing. Jitka Korčeková from the magazine Stavitel; Ing. Alena Georgiadisová from the magazine Střechy, Fasády, Izolace; Ing. Hana Solařová from the magazine Stavebnictví a interiér (as a guest); and Vojtěch Stokláska, director of TONDACH Czech Republic s.r.o.

Most of the buildings were family houses

Traditionally, family house constructions represented the largest portion among the 75 submitted works. This year, 40 buildings participated in this category. The Historical and Church Building category followed with 16 submitted buildings, the Residential (Apartment) Building category included 10 works, and another 9 buildings competed in the Public Beneficial Building category.
As in previous years, newly constructed family houses predominated among the submitted family houses. It is encouraging that both the very high quality of execution of all submitted works and the precise solution of all details have become the standard.
The list of participating companies also offered an interesting overview. Many of those who had participated in previous editions (with some being awarded in both years) re-entered, while entirely new names also appeared. These "newcomers" impressed with the very high quality of their showcased works, with many of them receiving awards for their projects.

Awarded buildings by individual categories

In the fierce competition in the Family House category, the company Střechy Vrňata & Žáčik, s.r.o. won an award twice. The first place was awarded for the family house Žernovka, and the third for Altán Hrnčíře. The second award was given to the company Stavitelství Střechy, s.r.o. for the quality execution of the roof of a log house in Halenkov.
The company Antonín Vrňata, s.r.o. secured the first place in the category Historical and Church Building for the roof of the chapel of St. Roch. The second place went to Kratochvíl střechy, s.r.o. for the roofs of agricultural buildings of the Kunratice Castle. The third award was taken by A-Z Bau, s.r.o. for the implementation of the Valdštejn Riding Hall in Prague.
In the category Residential (Apartment) Building, the firm Stanislav Pozník, f.o. was awarded for the roof of the residential house Husova 211/80 and 463/80a in Liberec, with the material supplier being the company Luděk Hák – Velus.
The company H & B delta, s.r.o., which is also a regular participant in the competition, received an award this year in the category Public Beneficial Building for the post office in Kroměříž.

The competition anticipates an international future

With its third edition, the TONDACH Baked Roof competition is also transforming into an international multi-round competition. Information about the new conditions for this roofing contest will be published shortly.
