Autodesk, a global leader in 2D and 3D design software for manufacturing, construction, media, and entertainment, announced that architects from the Prague studia pha used Autodesk 3ds Max software to design a striking exhibition object distinguished by its organic shapes. The architects were approached for this atypical exhibition project directly by CS Lyon Praha s.r.o., the exclusive importer of Barrisol material in the Czech Republic. Barrisol is a tensioned foil produced in many colors and surface finishes; it allows for both concave and convex shaping in all directions.
“The client contacted us for the design of their own exhibition stand due to our years of mutual cooperation, knowing that we have been using this highly sophisticated and innovative material for many years,” describes MgA. Marek Deyl from studia pha. “We were to design a mobile exhibition stand that would be multifunctional, disassemblable, and usable for different types of events. It was to demonstrate the wide range of applications of this material, both in perfectly flat surfaces—its most common use (usually as a ceiling in bathrooms and pools)—as well as the elegance of warped surfaces defined by non-parallel lines and a certain degree of surprise.” The solution meeting these requirements was found in Autodesk 3ds Max rendering software. Autodesk 3ds Max helped the architects find the right optical balance of surfaces appearing in the stretched foil. The stand showcases the diversity of types of this material: the transparent, matte, and glossy surface of Barrisol. Two colors, white and green, are used in this project. The stand is 10 meters long, 5 meters wide, and 6 meters high. Structurally, it consists of a delicate lightweight steel frame with truss beams that support the internal lighting. Barrisol is stretched into standardized aluminum profiles, which are used unusually. “To convey our idea, inspired mainly by nature, into space, we needed to find the right tools. Since our collaborating visualizers work on the other side of Prague, we sent all files electronically. Speed and efficiency are fundamental prerequisites for the success of exhibition stands and similar realizations. In a relatively short time, you have to create a highly engaging object with a story within the given budget,” adds M. Deyl.
