Development in architecture, especially in designing interiors, exteriors, and entire buildings, is progressing very rapidly. The main contributors to this are new technologies and the rapidly evolving field of 3D graphics. Visualization, or photorealistic computer representation, is now a standard tool for professionals to convince clients of the quality of their concepts. Most architectural firms, designers, and interior companies work with a 3D representation of their project as a natural part of their process. 3D design is an invaluable resource for architects, allowing them to have a clear understanding of space composition. The space is created first virtually, like in a computer game, without unnecessary expenses and can be arbitrarily transformed, modifying the equipment and individual elements for maximum aesthetic perfection. Additionally, architects or designers have an immediate visual response to their ideas, thus avoiding mistakes that would otherwise be revealed only during implementation. Constant feedback and subsequently graphically persuasive presentation are the main advantages of so-called spatial modeling for professionals.
“For architects or designers who can model anything from environments, buildings, interiors to individual products, it is of course ideal to use ready-made components, allowing them to focus on their own design,” says Vladimír Rendl, managing director of Rendl Light Studio. “They mostly utilize components like furniture or lighting fixtures.”
Lighting fixtures can be worked with endlessly in programs. They can be positioned, moved around, and most importantly, the real lighting flow of the space can be adjusted. Moreover, professionals can also adjust the direction of light using photometric data in IES format. This is highly significant in solution design. Programs can also create both daytime and nighttime variants of the same interior or exterior. This way, you achieve an effect where the result is indistinguishable from a photograph. It’s a more beautiful reality.
“This is how most of our partners work. We find it very useful, which is why we decided to convert our entire range from the Design catalog into 3D models, so that we can offer them freely to our partners,” explains Vladimír Rendl. “We create models in the three most widely used formats. These can be used for all software tools utilized for 3D modeling.” From two catalogs, Professional and Design, published by Rendl Light Studio, the choice fell on Design because of its extraordinary items. Design lamps are perfectly suited for playing with in space and devising the best compositions. The new Design 2010 catalog contains approximately 950 light fixtures, and the vast majority of them will be available in 3D models.
“Now we have a third of it modeled, and I hope that by the end of the year we will have the entire catalog,” says Vladimír Rendl. “In the future, we also aim to offer all the new products immediately in 3D models for free download on our website.”
On the Light Studio website, you can easily navigate hundreds of 3D models. You can download individual items, groups, categories, or an entire package. If someone only needs a few lights, they can conveniently download their selection. If an entire group is needed, for example, table, wall, or floor lamps, a file with the complete group can be downloaded. If someone wants an entire category, such as outdoor lighting, they can download the whole category in one file. All models are produced in high detail, ranging from 1 to 5MB, depending on the complexity and detail of each model. Some seemingly simple ones, such as a goose-necked light, are highly complex shapes for 3D modeling, which is why the file is larger than, for example, a model of a large wall lamp with simple shapes. Additionally, during 3D modeling, cross-sections of the fixtures and their sources were utilized to achieve the most realistic result. Even seemingly minor details such as seams, screws, bulbs, and even details that are not visible from the outside are modeled.
The models are freely available for download on the website. You can find them in the catalog next to each light fixture.
