Česká Kamenice

The five-thousand-strong town of Česká Kamenice (District of Děčín) has announced an open procurement procedure for the town architect. The representatives of the municipality expect to receive assistance from an external expert in preparing investments, caring for public spaces, and involving the public.

"We are looking for an architect who can provide us with professional support. However, we also expect them to bring new ideas and thoughts, which an outside perspective will certainly allow," says the mayor of Česká Kamenice, Jan Papajanovský.

According to the municipality's vision, the architect should start cooperating with the town from May, working 40 hours a month. The selection of the architect is overseen by an expert committee, which consists of two representatives from the town and three architects: Martin Hilpert, Petr Lešek, and Václav Zůna.

The well-preserved historic core of Česká Kamenice forms a municipal heritage zone, which earned the town the title of Historic Town of the Year in 2005. The municipality's territory is also the only place in the republic where three protected landscape areas converge, with the National Park of České Švýcarsko situated in close proximity.

"Our town has enormous development potential, especially in the area of tourism. However, we also have many problems - brownfields, unutilized buildings from a time when the town had significantly more residents. We want to work with a municipal architect to realize this potential and gradually address these issues," adds Papajanovský.

Current and Upcoming Architectural Competitions

Former Cinema

The selection of a municipal architect is not the only architectural undertaking that Česká Kamenice is planning. During February, the town will announce an architectural competition for the reconstruction of the former cinema into a multifunctional cultural and social space.

"Immediately after our arrival at the town hall in early November, we decided to halt the study on the use of the cinema that was commissioned in the manner of 'the cheapest designer without a proper brief' and began preparing for an open architectural competition. We prefer quality and innovation over speed and short-sighted savings," explains Papajanovský.

If the first modern architectural competition in the town is successful, the municipal government plans to hold more competitions in the future, specifically in collaboration with the town architect.

Documents for the Procurement Process

Complete documentation for the procurement procedure can be found on the municipal profile of the contracting authority. Proposals can be submitted electronically or in writing until March 18. Part of the selection process includes submitting written materials about the applicant and an interview before the expert committee.
