DALLAS, AHR Expo, January 30 – Autodesk announced that it is collaborating with Integrated Environmental Solutions Ltd. (IES) to further enhance the Revit software platform with features supporting long-term sustainable design. At the AHR Expo 2007 exhibition, Autodesk presented a prototype of how performance analytical tools from IES, combined with Autodesk Revit Systems solutions, can accurately analyze building performance. The data generated in this way will improve the decision-making process and provide architects and engineers with a foundation for designing better functioning, long-term sustainable buildings.
“Designing more sustainable and energy-efficient buildings is key to mitigating the impacts of climate change and reducing building operating costs. A fundamental direction for the further development of building information modeling solutions for us is enhancing the capabilities to conduct various types of analyses on the building information model,” said Jay Bhatt, Vice President of Autodesk Building Solutions. “Building performance analysis will help architects and engineers design more sustainable structures, and we are excited to collaborate with Integrated Environmental Solutions to make these features available on the Revit platform.”
A growing number of architects, designers, and engineers are addressing these challenges using Autodesk Revit building information modeling platform. The combination of the Revit platform and building performance analysis tools that can examine the impacts of alternative design strategies, consider physical, climatic, and ecological factors, and analyze energy use, lighting, and materials used in the building information model, will help designers achieve greater operational efficiency and better functioning buildings.
Autodesk and IES are working together to bring robust building performance analysis features to the Revit platform, which will be implemented through workflows between Autodesk Revit Systems software for building mechanical engineers, electrical systems, and installations, and IES software. Autodesk and IES demonstrated during their presentation at AHR Expo how the concurrent use of these two applications can conduct various building performance analyses including thermal analysis, load calculations, and sunlight evaluation with LEED assemblies and solar studies.
These comprehensive analytical capabilities will help design teams understand the complex interrelationships of thermal properties, lighting, and airflow within the design better and more thoroughly, enabling them to make more informed design decisions, minimize risks, and optimize building performance.
Dr. Don McLean, CEO of IES Ltd., remarked, “We hope our partnership with Autodesk through the support of our building performance analysis tools will help designers in the construction industry meet the demand for long-term sustainable designs and further enhance the value of building information models.”
