The monthly magazine for fine arts, architecture, and design Art&Antiques is being published in a new concept and graphic design. The January issue is the first prepared by a new editorial team led by Jan Skřivánek. He replaced Lenka Lindaurová as editor-in-chief at the beginning of November.

The cover and the main feature of the issue are dedicated to an exhibition by Japanese photographer Shomeie Tomatsu, which will be on view at the Rudolfinum gallery in Prague starting January 11. “We want to focus in detail on a specific exhibition that is just beginning each month. This will help our regular readers – who are often very busy people – choose which exhibition to visit,” explains Skřivánek. According to him, the magazine can also serve as a kind of small exhibition catalog.
In the current issue, readers will also find a comprehensive interview with painter Viktor Pivovarov, who will celebrate his 70th birthday on January 14, an article about the reconstruction of the Archdiocesan Museum in Olomouc with photographs by Ester Havlová, an invitation to the current exhibition Silesia – a Pearl in the Czech Crown, and a review of the catalog for the exhibition Charles IV – Emperor by the Grace of God, which was published before Christmas. There is also information about the art market and news from the world of fine arts and architecture.
“Most of the sections that readers were accustomed to will still be found in Art&Antiques. Generally, however, the magazine is more concentrated, and we have tried to strengthen its current relevance and journalistic value,” says Skřivánek about the new concept. He particularly highlights an article about the controversy surrounding the selection of the artist who will represent the Czech Republic at this year's Biennale in Venice, as well as a survey among architecture theorists on who they think should build the new National Library building. There are also new columns from experts in various fields of art and architecture. Contributing to the January issue are, for example, gallery owner Jiří Švestka and Mária Gálová, the director of the Dorotheum auction house.
The new art director of the magazine is Richard Procházka. The graphic design has generally become calmer, clearer, and more user-friendly. “Larger text areas are balanced by large-format photographs and reproductions,” says Procházka. “The typesetting is based on the font used in the magazine's logo.”
A part of the changes includes a reduction in the sales price of the magazine to 90 CZK. A subscription for 12 issues costs 900 CZK, and subscribers also receive a 50% discount on admission to exhibitions in selected galleries.

The magazine Art&Antiques has been published since the summer of 2002. Since 2004, it has been published by the company Mediagate, which is also the operator of the Brno Wannieck Gallery. Jan Skřivánek (*1977) is a graduate of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Charles University. He has previously worked as a cultural editor for the economic weekly Euro. He has contributed art reviews to Mladá fronta Dnes, Nedělní svět, and aktuálně.cz.
