Lectures

Weekly courses aimed primarily at architects, designers, and builders who would like to acquire computational procedures necessary for the design of low-energy and passive houses, become acquainted with suitable software, or learn more about the assessment of buildings' impact on the environment in broader contexts. The courses will take place from November 5 to 9, 2007. More information can be found at www.substance.cz/kurzy.

The project "Sustainable Building - Lifelong Learning Courses" focuses on both theoretical and practical education in the fundamentals of sustainable building construction. The project is managed by the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague, with academic sponsors Prof. Ing. Petr Hájek, CSc., Prof. Ing. Jan Tywoniak, CSc., Prof. Ing. Karel Kabele, CSc.,

The courses are intended for a broad professional audience, especially architects, civil engineers – designers, specialists in the field of thermal engineering, lighting, heating, etc., and representatives of consulting organizations and consulting firms. Graduates of the courses will gain primarily:
  • basic theoretical knowledge in the field of sustainable construction
  • an overview of methods for assessing energy consumption and the impact of buildings on the environment
  • practical experience in solving selected design problems related to minimizing energy consumption and the environmental burden caused by the construction and operation of buildings
  • the opportunity to try modern tools for the design and optimization of buildings with regard to minimizing environmental burden
As part of the project, two courses will be held:
  • course 1 - design and assessment of energy-efficient buildings
  • course 2 - design and assessment of buildings in broader contexts
The duration of one course is five working days. The courses will take place in the facilities of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague. Both courses will be repeated several times during 2006 and 2007. Dates for the individual courses, application forms, and other information can be found on the project's website (next date: November 5 to 9, 2007, applicable to both courses). An online version of both courses will be made available on this website later.

Participation in the courses is free in 2006 and 2007. The project is supported by the European Social Fund, the state budget of the Czech Republic, and the budget of the capital city of Prague. Participant fees will be fully covered by these sources.
