Versus Architekt o.s., Czech Centers Prague, Tokyo, and the House of Arts of the City of Brno have prepared a visit of Japanese architect and historian, professorTerunobu Fujimori, during which the guest will deliver a pair of lectures in cooperation with the Faculty of Architecture CTU and the National Theatre Brno. Fujimori is currently alongside architects such as Tadao Ando, Kengo Kuma, and Toyo Ito a leading figure in the Japanese architectural scene. Among the stars, Tadao Ando likely came closest to the Czech Republic when he lectured in Basel, Switzerland, in 2005. Directly in the country, architect Sakamoto gave lectures connected with an exhibition of his works at the Critics' Gallery in the same year. Now, after three years, the Czech public will again have a unique opportunity to participate - first on May 12 in Brno and then on May 14 in Prague - in a pair of lectures by the author from the Japanese intellectual circle. In addition to active design work, Fujimori is also an architectural historian. Since 1985, he has been a professor and head of a studio at the University of Tokyo. In 2006, European architects could meet his work at the Venice Architecture Biennale in the Japanese pavilion, where he presented his creations and theoretical work of the ROJO group, which he founded. His most recent publication in English, which presents his work alongside architects Isozaki, Ando, and Kuma, is a book dedicated to contemporary tea house constructions in Japan. Aside from his own work, Professor Fujimori's personality is very interesting from the perspective of the history of Czech architecture. As a historian, he has explored the influence of architects of Czech origin on Japanese modernism. Architects Raymond, Letzel, and Feuerstein are important names and milestones in the development of local architecture in the first half of the 20th century, alongside Frank Lloyd Wright.
