The exhibition on the housing culture of the 1970s will be followed by lectures

Prague - The Secondary School of Arts (VŠUP) has prepared a series of lectures on the theme of residential culture in the 1970s following the successful exhibition "Husákovo 3+1". The first lecture will take place on Tuesday, October 30, and will focus on the circumstances surrounding the emergence of housing estates in former Czechoslovakia from the sociologist's perspective. Three more lectures will be held on November 13 and 27 and December 11, always on Tuesdays at 6:00 PM in the main building of VŠUP.
    The topic of the first lecture is "Ideological and Political Causes of the Emergence of Housing Estates in Czechoslovakia from the Sociologist's Perspective" and it will be presented by Jiří Musil. His main areas of expertise include urban sociology, social ecology, and social theory, and he was also a collaborator with the authors of the exhibition "Husákovo 3+1".
    The organizers were primarily students of the History and Theory of Design and New Media program at VŠUP. They created the exhibition because design from the 1970s is gaining increasing interest among both laypeople and professionals abroad, but this is not yet the case in the domestic context.
    Consequently, they transformed their school gallery in the past month into a perfect replica of a panel house type VVÚ-ETA (known for example from Prague's Jižní Město), into which hundreds of people flowed daily. The exhibition concluded with an auction of some of the exhibited items, and it is expected to move to Brno at the end of the year.
    The second lecture will focus on the once very well-known ÚBOK, the Institute of Housing and Clothing Culture, especially its activities in the 1970s. The third lesson will be given by historian of modern architecture Rostislav Švácha and his presentation is simply titled "Architecture of Czech Housing Estates." The series of lectures will be concluded by designers Michal Froněk and Jan Němeček in an evening themed "Industrial Design of the 1970s."
    The "Husákovo 3+1" exhibition was part of a project called "3 x Seventies," which also includes an exhibition of "Photography of the 1970s in Czechoslovakia," taking place until Sunday in Klatovy, and a forthcoming showcase at the Applied Arts Museum. This will focus on fashion from that period and aims to present the lifestyle of the decade through clothing and accessories from Czechoslovak and foreign production, as well as products from local seamstresses. It will last from December to February 2008.
