The architectural magazine ERA21 has been initiating a series of public discussions on specific topics in the field of architecture and architectural practice in the Czech Republic since 2006. Round Table II on the topic "Architecture and Media" is co-organized by the Centre for Central European Architecture (CCEA), an independent architectural center that has focused on presenting architecture in the Central European space since 2003. It seeks non-standard ways of presentation that cross into many media.
The discussion poses the following questions: What is the state of professional architectural media? What is the overlap of professional architectural media into mass media? What image do Czech social media create about architecture? Do they promote architecture or do they rather harm it? What is the media image of architecture and the profession of architect itself? Who should care about creating the media image of architecture? Should contact with the media be an integral part of an architect's work? How do Czech mass media inform about contemporary architecture? What image do they produce? Do architects make it into the ranks of Czech social stars? What do Czech architects lack for greater publicity? Is there a rich network of entities in the Czech Republic trying to promote architecture?
At the "round table," authorities from the fields of theory and history of architecture and various media /television, radio, print media/ will sit down. Also, representatives of companies that place advertisements in the media, thus often deciding about their existence. How many architectural media can the Czech media market sustain? The official representative of the most important professional organization - the Czech Chamber of Architects - will also speak. How does the CKA participate in creating a positive image of Czech architecture? The discussion is publicly accessible. We expect not only attendance from the professional public but also from the wider journalistic community. The recording of the discussion, supplemented by secondary reactions and contributions, will be published in the magazine ERA21 and on the internet portal archiweb.cz. Transcripts of all round tables along with inspirational contributions and reactions will be published in an upcoming anthology.
