Kotěra's Center: In May and June for Architecture

May 14, 2009 at 16:30 a lecture titled C.F. Voysey and the "English House" in Southern Moravia by Prof. Jindřich Vybíral will take place at the Trmal Villa. The lecture focuses on the work of one of the main creators of British Arts & Crafts architecture, Charles Francis Voysey (1857-1941), and his little-known design for the suburban residence of factory owner Karel Löw near Jihlava. Following the lecture, there will be a discussion evening at 19:00 on the topic Beautiful Housing Estate? With young theorists and curators.

June 3 at 17:00 the Slovenian researcher Damjen Prelovšek will present a lecture on the Architectural Work of Josip Plečnik at the Trmal Villa. The lecture will introduce both well-known Czech works and lesser-known foreign works by this architect, who was a friend of Jan Kotěra and T. G. Masaryk, and who significantly contributed to the character of Czech interwar architecture.

Kotěra's Colony in Louny Extended!
The exhibition in the Trmal Villa Famous Villas of the Ústí Region: Kotěra's Colony in Louny will be extended by one week due to great public interest. You can visit the exhibition at the Trmal Villa until May 24 inclusive. From May 27, the exhibition Famous Villas of the Pardubice Region will open immediately.
The exhibition Famous Villas of the Ústí Region: Kotěra's Colony in Louny aims to remind of the somewhat forgotten work of architect Jan Kotěra. When constructing the district for railway workers, Kotěra was the first in Bohemia to apply the idea of garden city architecture. He drew on his knowledge of German and English garden cities. His goal was to create a self-contained city within a city, combining the advantages of both countryside and city into one whole.
