The relationship between developers and local governments will be addressed in an online panel discussion "Developer and City," hosted by the statutory city of Jihlava and Frank Bold Lawyers. Representatives from investors, construction entrepreneurs, and municipalities will debate not only the establishment of cooperation rules between cities and developers but also about sustainability, innovations, and, above all, the belief that change is possible. You can watch the debate live at www.youtube.com/mestojihlava on October 20, 2020, from 10 AM to 12 PM. Alongside the Deputy Mayor of the statutory city of Jihlava, Vít Zeman, the director of the Association of Developers Tomáš Kadeřábek, the director of the Office of Architecture of the City of Karlovy Vary Petr Kropp, the president of the Union of Construction Entrepreneurs Jiří Nouza, the chairman of the Board of the Association of Builders and Developers of Brno Marek Vintr, and Tomáš Kaláb, the director of the construction company KALÁB, have confirmed their participation. “Thirty years after the Velvet Revolution, it would be good if both sides, namely developers and cities, symbolically pulled their heads out of the sand, understood each other’s arguments, and started cooperating on the development of our cities. Only collaboration can bring about both the strengthening of sustainable development and the enhancement of the quality of the living environment, and thus the economic prosperity of developers,” said Deputy Vít Zeman. The discussion will focus on how post-revolutionary development burst into Czech cities and changed zoning plans in favor of construction. This initiated the creation of residential, logistical, and commercial zones, regardless of the capacities of engineering networks or the economic, social, or ecological needs of the cities. One of the questions for the discussion will also be how this situation has affected the relationships between public administration officials, local governments, and development. At the same time, there is a clear need to find ways to restore trust between cities and developers and whether it is sufficient to create fair rules that will allow quality development projects to be produced and bad ones to be rejected. Their existence alone does not necessarily mean that the battle is won. It always partially depends on who is in power and how the rules are interpreted. Therefore, the debate will also address how to ensure that the interpretation of the rules is not tied to politics.
