Prague - Architect Vlado Milunič will give a lecture at the Veletržní Palace, where he will present some aspects of the Dancing House in Prague as well as other of his buildings. Once controversial, today mostly admired, the building was constructed by Milunič together with the famous architect Frank Gehry in the mid-90s. The lecture will take place on May 2nd at 4:00 PM in the auditorium of the Veletržní Palace.

"During his lecture, Milunič will elucidate not only the essence of the formation of the building's shape but also its relationship to the surrounding houses and spaces, clarify how the Medusa sculpture made its way to the top of the building, and address the issue of the interiors of the Dancing House," stated the spokesperson of the National Gallery in Prague (NG), Petra Jungwirthová, to ČTK. The lecture will also cover the history of the site where the house stands today and the collaboration between two architects from different parts of the world.
The model of the Dancing House is one of the exhibits of the permanent exhibition of foreign design and architecture at the NG in the Veletržní Palace. The gallery's collections also include Milunič's designs for other buildings - pavilions for the Prague Zoo or proposals for a competition for a children's oncology pavilion.
Milunič was born in 1941 in Zagreb, then part of Yugoslavia, but moved abroad with his parents at the age of 16. In 1966, he completed his studies in architecture at the Czech Technical University in Prague. From 1969 to 1974, he worked at the Project Institute for the Construction of the Capital City of Prague with architect Karel Prager; from 1969 until 1990, he collaborated with architect Jan Línko (studios Gama and Delta), with whom he created a number of buildings.
In 1972, he formulated his program of new functionalism, in which he primarily designed buildings for social housing for the elderly (in Bohnice, Malešice, Háje, and Chodov). Since 1990, he has been working in his own studio, VM.
