Znojmo - Znojmo will have three architectural studies prepared, based on which it intends to modify the forest park in the valley of the Leska Stream, the park at Máchovo Square, and create new parking capacities near Loucký Monastery. This was stated in a press release by the city's spokesperson Petra Šuláková. All studies are expected to be completed this year.
The Leska Stream springs in Přímětice, and the modifications would concern its forested surroundings up to the tennis courts on Do Lesek Street. The idea of improving the upper part of the Leska valley was proposed in 2021 and 2022 by the Beautification Society in Znojmo in the participatory budget Tvoříme Znojmo. "The city is therefore catching up on an older commitment," said Šuláková. There are also walking paths and a railway line running through the valley.
Máchovo Square is largely a park. The study will include an updated dendrological survey, and its result will be a proposal for what modifications the park should undergo. "Both of the mentioned studies will be carried out by Atelier Gaia, which focuses on garden and landscape architecture. We have already collaborated with them several times, for example, in preparing the study for the redevelopment of the so-called Kára area, the space near the cemetery in Hradiště, or currently in the design for the revitalization of the village square in Načeraty. Based on these good experiences, we have approached the studio for further cooperation," said Deputy Mayor Jakub Malačka (Naše Znojmo).
The third study will focus on parking near the monastery, which is gradually coming to life. This has led to an increased need to expand the number of parking spaces in the vicinity. "The city is looking for effective solutions. The most suitable option seems to be the reconstruction of the parking lot by the swimming pool. By adding one underground level, the total capacity of the parking lot could practically double," stated Šuláková. In connection with the study, the city has begun negotiations with the Directorate of Roads and Highways regarding the restoration of the former turn from the intersection of Vienna and Brno Streets towards Klášterní Street.
