Adamov – The project plan for the reconstruction of the Brno railway junction, the main component of which is the relocation of the station, is to be completed by the end of this year, said Transport Minister Martin Kupka (ODS) to reporters in Brno today. It is to include a detailed schedule of further preparatory works, with construction expected to start in 2028. According to the General Director of the Railway Administration, Jiří Svoboda, it can be expected that construction will take nearly ten years.

According to a feasibility study more than four years old, the total costs were then estimated at 50 billion crowns. Kupka stated that he expects that the European Union will largely participate in co-financing, which supports the construction of high-speed rail networks. The Brno hub is to connect three rail lines, from Prague, Vienna, and Ostrava, and will also be used by trains to Bratislava, which will run at speeds exceeding 160 kilometers per hour. "When the total costs are spread over ten years, they are manageable costs. I believe that funding will be found for Brno," said Svoboda.

Kupka also mentioned that an estimated 80 percent of trains are expected to operate to the new main station, with only a small portion stopping at the planned Vienna terminal, which is to be located near the intersection of the D1 motorway and the Vienna expressway. These will be trains primarily connecting Berlin with Vienna. The size of the terminal, according to Kupka, is still a matter for further discussions, as is the potential so-called bypass. This refers to a double-track connection from the Vienna terminal to the Ostrava line, which, however, currently has no support in spatial planning documentation, and Brno rejects it. "We are still at the beginning of considerations," Kupka said in this regard.

The modernization of the Brno hub will also bring other major investments into the city's infrastructure amounting to billions of crowns, to enable tram and trolleybus routes to reach the new station, which is to be built at the site of the current lower station. The station is to be a modern transport hub where all modes of transport will meet.
