Brno - Moravec Castle in the Žďár region, which serves as a depository of the Moravian Museum, will open to the public for the first time in over 20 years. Visitors will be able to explore several historic halls and the library with a guide over the weekend of August 2 to 4, said Barbora Javorová, spokesperson for the Moravian Museum, to journalists today.

"Because there have been inquiries from the public about what the castle looks like inside, we decided to make it accessible for one weekend a year," said Jiří Mitáček, the museum's general director. The castle has been managed by the Moravian Museum since 1996; in the 1950s, it was nationalized due to Beneš's decrees and served as a children's sanatorium or laundry.

"We will show the castle's spaces in their raw state. From the time when the castle was a children's sanatorium, there are also some frescoes of playing pioneers on the wall of the medieval hall," said Javorová. Small bathrooms and toilets for children have also been preserved.

On Friday and Saturday evenings, the castle courtyard will be transformed into an open-air cinema, screening the films "Špunti na vodě" and "Ženy v běhu." The weekend will conclude on Sunday at 3:00 PM with a concert by the group Bobrůvanka.

The castle stands on the site of a 14th-century fortress, which was rebuilt in the first half of the 17th century by the Magnáš family. Next to the castle is a large park, which was created after the building was reconstructed following a fire in 1825. Since then, the residence has taken on a classical appearance. The park features a collection of exotic trees, such as silver fir and Jeffrey pine. The collection was established thanks to Count Gedenus, who was a dendrologist.
