Krupka - The reconstruction of the historic museum building in Krupka in the Teplice region has begun. The construction portion will cost more than 35 million crowns, and together with the exhibition, the total costs will reach about 70 million crowns. The Ústí nad Labem Region, to which the museum belongs, has obtained an EU grant for the restoration of the museum. Repairs will be completed by the end of October at the latest. The region will announce a tender for the exhibition part in a few weeks. This was stated by the regional councilor for finance, Jan Růžička (ODS).

"All work on the museum should be completed by the end of the year so that we can open it to the public in the last month," said the councilor. "The result will be that Krupka, which is part of UNESCO, should finally have a dignified museum about mining," Růžička said, adding that the exhibition part will include interactive elements, and the geological aspect will not be neglected either.

The project had been created years ago when the museum was closed in 2018 based on a decision by the former regional leadership. The then-political representation expected to obtain grants for repairs, which did not happen. The building was emptied and heating was also stopped, resulting in the deterioration of the technical condition of the monument. According to Růžička, water also leaked into the museum. "The Gothic cellars have fallen into a state of emergency. The project had to be entirely modified because their remediation must take place, which is currently happening," the councilor said. The original project included an outdoor elevator so that people with strollers or less mobile citizens could access the museum. To save costs, the region proposed stair climbers and ramps inside the building.
