For four days and three nights, architecture students from Brno and Liberec worked on visions and designs for the village of Lazníčky, a small area near Přerov, on the border of Haná and the Oderské Hills. The students created a total of four sets of interventions and presented them with great success to the local residents on Sunday, April 14th. The promising students even came up with a proposal to build a microbrewery in the former fire station, where up to three types of beer could be produced.

The aim of the workshop was to enrich all its participants – students with new skills, knowledge, friends, and experiences, the community with a wide range of concrete proposals from young architects, and citizens with the opportunity to discuss specifically designed proposals rather than airy dreams with "this could work and this couldn't." Young architects did not just try to outline fantastic visions; they approached many topics realistically using the technique of village acupuncture, where even a small and inexpensive intervention can significantly improve the quality of life for locals.
Students naturally could not behave like visitors from Mars and propose disproportionately. They tried to understand what is truly best for the community and, above all, what local residents wish. “Thanks to many questionnaires from citizens, they began to understand what a village actually is, how it works or doesn’t work, even within the landscape. Moreover, they also learned how to explain and present their sometimes really bold visions clearly,” described Jan Horký, who was in charge of the entire workshop, the implementation and contribution of this project.

The mayor of the community, Dagmar Kubzová, who invited the students, was also satisfied: “I was not worried about what the students would actually come up with or how they would approach our village; I was rather concerned about how the people in the community would accept this unusual activity, but in the end, I was very pleasantly surprised. I think the students presented themselves excellently, spoke with the people, and they were mostly received well. Some of their ideas will certainly be realized according to possibilities, and we will discuss them in detail at regular meetings with citizens,” she praised the collaboration between young architects and residents.
The event was supported by the Olomouc Region and Art'sCool!
