Prague - More and more homeowners have been embarking on energy-efficient renovations in recent years. However, many builders start with unrealistic expectations about how much these construction works will cost. A special web application called FasCalc will now help them navigate the offers of construction companies by calculating the costs for insulating the facade of a building. Interested parties can find it on the website of the Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU), where students from the Department of Economics and Management in Construction of the Faculty of Civil Engineering created the application. This was reported today by the spokesperson of the State Housing Development Fund (SFRB) Karolína Smetanová. The aim of the application, in which the state fund participated in its development, is to reveal any unjustifiable increases in price for insulation projects. "FasCalc will provide users from the general public with a uniform and professional basis for requesting quotes from construction companies and will subsequently allow them to reliably and easily compare their offers. The calculation can also help uncover discrepancies in budgets that were prepared in other ways," Smetanová stated. The web calculator will allow users to easily evaluate the most advantageous offer. "This is thus a tool that can assist in the objective assessment and control of suppliers' offers for construction work. For this reason, the State Housing Development Fund will recommend FasCalc to all applicants for a loan from the Panel 2013+ program, for which a budget for the reconstruction is a mandatory attachment to the application," the SFRB spokesperson added. However, the application only calculates facade insulation and the replacement of facade openings in standard buildings. In atypical projects and special investor requirements, such as the construction of window infills, the role of the estimator is irreplaceable, warns the SFRB. Modern technologies are increasingly penetrating into construction. A year and a half ago, the SFRB presented another application created in collaboration with CTU. The RebytCalc program allows for the correct planning of apartment core renovations and verifies whether the price proposed by the construction company is inflated. The isolation manufacturer, Knauf Insulation, also made its own free software for design and thermal-technical assessment of technical insulation available around the same time. According to the Vice President and General Director of the Association of Entrepreneurs in Construction in the Czech Republic (SPS ČR) Miloslav Mašek, similar programs can improve public awareness of the price level of construction work.
