Ústí nad Labem - The state sold the neobaroque palace villa of the manufacturer Heinrich Schicht in Ústí nad Labem at an auction for an opening price of 15.9 million crowns. No bidders registered for the electronic auction of the neighboring Hönig villa. Michaela Tesařová, spokesperson for the Office for the Representation of the State in Property Matters (ÚZSVM), told ČTK this today.
The state acquired the building, which soap manufacturer Heinrich Schicht had constructed in the 1920s, free of charge from the University of J.E. Purkyně in Ústí. The factory owner's family used the property, which has a built area of 500 square meters, until 1945.
The university used the villa in the Vaňov district, which offers a view of Střekov Castle and the Elbe Valley, as student dormitories until 2005. It then unsuccessfully tried to sell the property.
The villa still contains built-in closets, staircases, stucco decorations, and in some places, original floors. Since 2014, the villa has been a cultural monument.
Two deposits were made for the selection procedure. "Two bidders registered for the auction, with one of them making a bid of 15.9 million crowns, thereby becoming the winner of the electronic auction. ÚZSVM will invite the winner, who is a legal entity, to sign the contract," Tesařová stated. Once the contract is signed, the office will send it to the Ministry of Culture for approval. Subsequently, the winner will be invited to pay the purchase price. "We are glad that we have managed to find a new owner for this cultural monument, which commemorates the period of the significant Ústí manufacturer Heinrich Schicht, and we believe that they will find a meaningful use for it," the spokesperson said.
The villa of manufacturer Josef Hönig, who had a tannery in Ústí, was also for sale in the electronic auction. In addition to the plot of nearly two hectares, the villa also includes a former accommodation facility built in close proximity. The opening price was just under nine million crowns. No one registered for the auction, so the state will announce another round of the selection procedure soon. "We believe that we will also succeed in finding a new owner for this unique historical building, who will breathe new life into it," the spokesperson stated.
