Brno - The Museum of the City of Brno has prepared an expanded second edition of the extensive book about the Tugendhat villa, the most valuable monument of modern architecture in the city. The publication titled "Mies in Brno. Tugendhat Villa" was published to mark five years since the reopening of the building after an extensive renovation. The anniversary fell at the turn of February and March.

The publication describes, for example, the work of architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, his spatial solutions for the villa, and its placement in the landscape context, said Michael Kalábek, spokesperson for the Museum of the City of Brno. The book by Ivana Černá and Dagmar Černoušková also contains numerous contemporary and period photographs and plans.

The second edition of the publication includes a chapter on the original furniture purchased from the descendants of the builders, as well as new photographs by David Židlický, Kalábek said. The book is available at the Tugendhat villa, the souvenir shop at Špilberk Castle, and in some bookstores.

The Tugendhat villa was completed 87 years ago. It is the only modern Czech building listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its repairs before reopening lasted two years. The aim was to remove inappropriate interventions from the period of World War II and the following decades.
