At the age of 45, the theorist of photography, photographer, and educator Filip Láb passed away

Prague - At the age of 45, theoretical photographer, photographer, and educator Filip Láb suddenly passed away on Monday. The Faculty of Social Sciences at Charles University, where he worked, announced this on its website today. The school's spokesperson, Jana Chloubová, confirmed it to ČTK.

Filip Láb specialized in the theory and practice of classical and digital photography, photojournalism, visual communication, the transition from traditional images to digital ones, and the new functions of visual materials in the digital environment. He collaborated externally with New York University in Prague, worked as a freelance photographer, and wrote for cultural magazines and websites.

He was a co-author of the monographs Photography after Photography (with Pavel Turk, 2009) and The Twilight of Photojournalism? (with Alena Lábová, 2009) and published other texts on the theory of photography.

Filip Láb lectured at the Institute of Communication Studies and Journalism at the Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University in Prague. He completed his bachelor's and master's studies in journalism and media studies at FSV UK and studied both bachelor's and master's degrees in photography at the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. At FAMU, he completed doctoral studies in photography and new media. At FSV, he was the head of the Department of Journalism at the Institute of Communication Studies.
