The workshop is part of the project VACANT CENTRAL EUROPE, in which 4AM collaborates with organizations KÉK (Hungarian Contemporary Architecture Centre), Bec Zmiana (PL), Napraw Sobie Miasto (PL), Praguewatch (CZ), Archimera (SK), and PBlog (SK), with the support of the International Visegrad Fund.
As a result of the economic crisis, the issue of vacant urban properties and their temporary use has become a significant topic in urbanism, architecture, and sociology discourse. The Vacant Central Europe project focuses on mapping abandoned spaces in the city, architectural or urban instruments, and researching related legislation, as well as exchanging experiences and strategies leading to the temporary use of vacant areas or their functional transformation. The project's goal is for the negative impacts of the economic crisis and post-industrial economic restructuring to become an opportunity for the utilization of vacant areas in the city for various social and cultural initiatives, social activities, or start-up companies.
