In Židlochovice, a shopping center will start being built within a month

Židlochovice (Brno region) - On the site of the former sugar factory in Židlochovice in the Brno region, a shopping center will begin construction within a month. Immediately after the building permit is issued, demolition of the old buildings will start, along with the first phase of the center, said Svatoslav Outulný, the owner of the development company, to ČTK today. He plans to invest 100 million to 150 million crowns into the project. The supermarket and first shops are expected to open by the end of the year.
A hectare of land with dilapidated buildings near the center of the town is expected to transform unrecognizably within two years. It will become the second center of Židlochovice and a counterpoint to the historic square on the opposite bank of the Svratka River, according to Outulný. The municipality began the first demolitions last year, which will continue in three weeks. Only the smokestack and the filtering tower will remain from the sugar factory, which has been out of operation for years.
The ground floor of the tower will serve as the main entrance to a kind of square that will be created in the middle of the new buildings. "For now, we want to place part of the technical facilities on the upper floor of the tower, and the highest part can be used as an observation area," stated Outulný.
The first phase will feature a shopping arcade and a supermarket. Next year, the second part of the shops and a community center will follow. "However, if we quickly confirm tenants for the shops, we will try to finish the entire center by the end of the year," Outulný said. The shopping gallery will mainly offer small and specialized retail and services. This is precisely why some local entrepreneurs oppose the center, noted Mayor Jan Vitula. "Most of them have already come to terms with the competition," he added.
The town with more than 3,000 residents near Brno will also offer new housing within two years. Near the castle garden, an area of family houses is currently being completed. Additionally, three three-story apartment buildings will be constructed right next to the shopping center.
